Nominated Charity
Each year the Highland Business Women Club vote to select a nominated charity for the year.
Throughout the HBWC year (1 April - 31 March), the members raise funds for the nominated charity through events, raffles and sponsorship. The committee members organise a raffle at each monthly club meeting and the club's Annual Awards Dinner also raises substantial monies for the nominated charity.
The nominated charity for 2009-2010 is Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre for Inverness and District.
At the April meeting a cheque for £7,000 was presented to last year's nominated charity: Maggie's Highland Cancer Care Centre. Past President Jackie Cuddy handed over the Club’s cheque and Carole Bridge, manager of Maggie’s Highland told Club members how important she had found “the opportunity to raise the profile of Maggie’s. Members have been so supportive of our efforts this year which has resulted in us raising the most money ever for our nominated charity”.
In 2008 we raised an amount of £5,000 for the Highland Homeless Trust, a Homeless Services provider currently providing housing support to vulnerable adults who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, in 2007 we raised £4,500 for the four Womens Aid Groups in the Highlands and 2006 £4000 was given to representatives from the Special Care Baby Unit at Raigmore hospital.
