The Association of Scottish Businesswomen (ASB)
Stretches the Hand of Friendship across to the World to Africa.

The ASB formed in 1995 as the umbrella organisation for 10 networking businesswomen’s clubs across Scotland, offering support to our members, who are from the corporate world or have their own businesses. In June 2008 the ASB committee decided to extend that support to businesswomen across the world to Ghana in particular.

Ghana, also known as the Gold Coast has a population of about 23 million with a fairly stable leadership, good education system but with a life expectancy for women of only 60.

Women in Ghana believe in working hard and contributing to their economy. They start businesses on a very micro level but to grow their businesses even to a small level they are hampered by lack of finance. Funds are often inaccessible, with few women decision makers on the committees and loan repayments unworkable.

The ASB have joined with The Wildhearts to launch our own Wildhearts Trust Group with the money raised going primarily to women wishing to start or expand their businesses in Ghana.

WildHearts lends small sums of money to people to start up their own mini-businesses, be that a simple market stall or sewing shop; anything that enables them to support their family with dignity. The power of Micro Finance rests in the sheer number of lives it can touch, as one loan impacts the lives of seven people. Moreover the people who receive loans will soon begin to help their wider community by employing their friends and neighbours and by supporting other local businesses. What’s more, once they pay back their loan (with no interest) the funds will then be lent out to someone else.

The ASB are helping the Women in Ghana Dreams come True.
